Travel: From the Northern or Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok, it is a 2-3 hour bus ride to Sam Chuk. From the market there, you can take a motorcycle taxi or a pickup truck to the Wat.
Description: 5 km outside of Sam Chuk in Suphanburi Province (approx. 130 km from Bangkok). The quietly situated monastery covers 200 Rai and is surrounded by rice fields. There live 30-50 monks, about 100 nuns, and a varying number of laypeople.
Tradition and Teacher: Acharn Sangwahn Khemmako
Meditation Technique: Mindfulness of breathing (Anapanasati), the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (4 Satipatthana), and other meditation objects taught in the scriptures. Usually, there is a meeting with the teacher several times a week. The intensive, individual practice takes place in one’s own kuti. Between 3 and 4 a.m. and between 6 and 7 p.m., the recitations of the monks and nuns take place, to which laypeople are welcome.
Language(s): The teachings are given in Thai. Western nuns who have been living here for many years assist with translations into English or German.
Accommodation: Individual kutis (bungalows) with Thai-style bathroom, running water, and electricity.
Meals: There is one free meal daily with a good selection.
Note: The Wat was highly praised by some people and an abbot, also very suitable for women.
