This beautifully situated and newly built meditation center is located near the village of Anee Sakhan, about 10 km before Pyin Oo Lwin (formerly Maymyo), not far from the impressive Anee Sakhan Waterfall. Due to the altitude (approx. 800 m), the climate here is always pleasant, which is especially appreciated from March to May when it is unbearable elsewhere.
Meditation technique: Based on Mahasi Sayadaw’s method of Vipassana meditation/insight meditation. Formal meditation alternates between sitting and walking, with times adjusted to the meditator’s level. The primary meditation object during sitting meditation is the rising and falling of the abdomen. Great emphasis is also placed on developing continuous and uninterrupted mindfulness during daily activities. This includes everything outside of formal sitting and walking meditation. Thus, all movements while eating, dressing, getting up, etc., are performed consciously and slowly in order to be mindful in every moment.
Course duration and dates: Since no group retreats take place, no dates need to be observed.
Language(s): The abbot and meditation teacher speaks good English.
Travel: When driving up from Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin, in the village of Anee Sakhann (which is probably not signposted), a green sign first points left to the waterfall. 200 to 300 m later, a green sign (Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Center or similar) also points left to the meditation center. Pickups and shared taxis travel the route quite frequently.
