The center does not have its own email address, so emails are read by several people and replies can take over a week.

Arrival
Shwe Oo Min Monastery is about half an hour by taxi from the airport and about an hour from downtown Yangon. The road leading to the monastery branches off opposite the London Cigarette Factory (info for the taxi driver). If the driver does not know the way, it is best to call the monastery so that the way can be described to him.

Tradition and Teacher
Ven. Sayadaw U Tejaniya, trained by Ven. Shwe Oo Min Sayadaw (died in Nov. 2002 at the age of 89 in this monastery), is in his mid-40s and speaks some English. Usually, however, the interviews are very well translated by a Burmese lady from Singapore named Ma Thet Thet.

Meditation Technique
Mainly cittanupassana (observation of the mind) is practiced. The mind is attentively observed, recognized, and deeply understood.

Course Duration and Dates
Since no group retreats take place, no dates need to be observed.

Costs
The maintenance of the center is financed exclusively by donations and is therefore dependent on the voluntary support of retreat participants.

Climate
Tropical climate, the cooler dry season from November to February (very hot from March) are the most favorable months.

What to Bring
Insect repellent, water purification tablets, and medication should be brought from home in sufficient quantities. A light sleeping bag and a warm fleece jacket are useful especially during the winter months. A German/English dictionary can be helpful for the interview. Everyday items such as toiletries, flashlight, batteries, bathing slippers, and water bottle are available in Yangon.

Note
The monastery is authorized to issue “Sponsorship Letter” for a meditation visa. It can be a bit noisy due to construction work and the loudspeakers of some monasteries in the vicinity.
