The monastery is located in the northeast of Thailand on the Mekong, which forms the border with Laos. It is a relatively quiet place in a beautiful setting with trees and bamboo groves. There are some larger buildings such as the accommodation for the laity, the Bot (assembly hall for monks) and the Main Sala (main hall). Monks and novices live in kutis (bungalows) behind the main hall. If you have questions or wish to stay, you should approach one of the monks in the Main Sala.
Ajahn Pichit and some other monks speak English and answer questions. Luang Poo Tate’s books are available in Thai and English.
Breath meditation (Anapanasati), mental repetition of the mantra “Buddho” or maranasati (contemplation of death) are used to develop concentration and mindfulness. Then, using the mind thus collected, one contemplates the body to recognize its true characteristics. With this knowledge, the mind becomes free from attachment.
All are free to follow the meditation system of their choice. Teachings are mainly through books and tapes (only in Thai). Mindfulness and observance of the monastic rules are considered an important part of the practice.

08.00 am: Monks and novices eat, the laity chant
09.00 am: Meal for the laity
03.00 pm: Work meditation
04.00 pm: Afternoon drinks
04.30 pm: Work meditation
07.00 pm: Evening chanting
08.00 pm: Meditation in the Dhamma hall until 10 pm
Travel: The Wat is located between the provincial capital Nong Khai, about 68 km to the west, and the town of Sri Chiangmai, about 18 km to the east of the Wat (bus connections to Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Bangkok). The distance to Bangkok is about 655 km. The night bus from Bangkok by Baramee Tour stops directly at the Wat if at least eight passengers wish to go there.
You can also travel by train to Nong Khai or fly to Udon Thani (91 km from the Wat). From there, head towards Sri Chiangmai (the bus may stop at the Wat on request) or take a songtaew or local bus from Sri Chiangmai to the entrance of Wat Hin Maak Peng. From there it is a 500 m walk.
